Best fictional detectives? Page 4

I do not read much detective fiction, but I do enjoy Leslie Thomas' Dangerous Davies stories. The Peter Davison TV series is not so hot. I never saw Bernard Cribbins in the role, though I imagine he would have been pretty good.

Foyle's War is possibly the best TV series ever about the home front, and Michaeal Kitchen's Christopher Foyle is a great character; he behaves in the way we would all like to think we would behave in the same circumstances, but probably wouldn't.

Love Dangerous too and Foyle.

My faves though are Jill Gascoigne in the Gentle Touch and Caroline Catz in that one with her and the blonde girl. :)

Yeh and don't miss or I'll set Jack Klugman on you he beats up ninjas and punks.

What about really fat detectives? Cannon, The fatman and that one who owns a pie shop.

Pie in the sky? Yes I used to love that too. Richard Griffiths. All that talk about food did it for me.

The Mousetrap, the single most boring thing I have ever sat through apart from Terence McNally's Frankie And Johnny In The Claire De Lune.

You've not seen Les Miserables then?

For the same reason I enjoy historical detective fiction, and C.J. Sansom's Matthew Shardlake series is as good as it gets.

I really want to read those. Wish I had the time.

Oh, and I'll say Jonathan Creek too.

Are we ever going to get a DVD release of that in this country?

God I bloody well hope so. I believe E4 are showing it, or they're going to start show starting next Monday. I'm not sure though.

gotta mention Horatio Caine from CSI:Miami.

Old school, wild west sheriff with a natty line in opening zingers.

Nick and Nora from the Thin Man movies, my favourite!
