I'd have had to either gone to Elliot's last night, which is an hour and a half's journey (tiiiiring!), slept over until like 3.30, and caught the first bus with them; or got a non-existent train at 2.30 a.m. to meet them.

All very good reasons not to! With the added benefit you don't have to spend most of your day waiting around for buses for, like, fun.
I quite like that bit! It's moreso if/when the others all get angry at each other that things are fun.
Hmmm, yes that does sound feasible. How many of them are actually doing it?
