Spoofs

OK, so there are clown sitcoms being made as we speak.

has there ever been a spoof made of spoof shows? Bear with me; there's a lot of spoof shows out there, they might adopt a documentary style, or parody a films, and they often do it very badly. Hence, it seems reasonable to make a spoof OF these types of shows. I'm not sure how it would work.

To be clear, I'm not talking about comedies set around comedy shows, like Studio 60 or The Larry Sanders Show.

Spoofing the spoof? What would be the point?

Wouldn't spoofing a comedy just remaking it into a serious movie? :S

The nearest I can think of is It's Gary Shandling's Show which certainly spoofed American sitcom, to almost the point that it was spoofing itself. But generally, no, I don't see how a spoof-spoof would work. Sorry.

I'm with Tim on poo-pooing the spoof-spoof...

...What other ideas do you have you'd like us to shoot down? :)

Monkey Tennis?

I can see the point of spoofing really poor spoofs like Scary Movie etc, to show how shit they are, but it would be very, very difficult to do without just looking like a bad spoof yourself.

But aren't those kind of movies ultimately beneath contempt? Lazy hack jobs with absolutely no artistic merit? They take about five minutes to knock out, and I'm sure nobody involved has any real belief in them other than as quick money making devices. When Airplane spoofed disaster movies it was actually spoofing something that, within the confines of the genre, was quite fun.

(That said, spoof-spoofs might work better as a quick sketch)

I liked Scary Movie 1 & 2 :$

What about Meet the Spartans?

No, that was shit.

No, that was shit.

Didn't that have the same guy in who was in that BBC2 sitcom with Matt Lucas in whose name I've already forgotten?

Yes, Sean Maguire.

Scary Movie was excellent (though the sequels sucked). And it was a spoof of Scream, which itself was a spoof of slasher horror films (with abundant references to the genre's cliches).

And a spoof of spoof movies is due for release later this year: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1302019/

The title of this film made me laugh. Won't bother going to see it though.

I always wondered what the last days of civilisation were going to look like, and apparently they contain spoof-spoof movies. Chevy Chase and Burt Reynolds? - this comedy is completely f**king finished before it's even started.
