Well, I enjoyed it and to methat's all that matters.

The rather cheap death of Ianto.

I would say the apparent pointlessnes of Iantos death was, well, rather the point; and all the more effective for it.

Almost as though Barrowman wasn't trusted to carry the thing off.

If that was in any way the case, which I doubt, then he really proved his acting chops in this.

I thought it was better him just dying. Not doing usual main character death saving a truck load of kids or what ever.

*agrees*It made it more shocking.

And when they made you think the Asian Dr was going to join Torchwood and then turns out he was evil and then he die.

And when they made you think the Asian Dr was going to join Torchwood and then turns out he was evil and then he die.

That was a nice little surprise; even more so as I was really hoping he wasn't going to end up joining The 'Wood.

The clever thing was such a pastiche of how Gwen joined up in episode one.

Is Torchwood anything like Dr. Who? Cos I've tried watching that and never got into it.

What's great about it is the dark haired Welsh lovely's hubby, he is so well integrated into the story.

David Tennant is the only good thing about Doctor Who.

Sorry but what the f**k are you talking about?

Obviously not the same thing as you. :P

Well at least the five parter didn't end in the usual RTD manner, of reversing time and making everything the same as it was at the start of episode one. Like he's done with Doctor Who for the last few years.

Is there a RTD-knocking thread already open for me to join? His is a very controversial writing style. I can't quite understand how he's become successful, given the 'inconsistent' ( Whistling nnocently ) nature of his work.

I once sat down and watched six series of Only Fools and Horses back to back.

Why didn't you both use a proper chair?

Nah.

Nah.

Yup.

Oh can anyone actually picture a heroic death for Iainto that would have stayed Germane to the character?

One of the weaker bits of the show was Captain Jack who'd always been a big Walter the Softy turning into King John with a tower full of princes.

Yup.

To be more explicit on the point, I guess my lack of involvement/appreciation in Ianto's demise is due to a basic lack of trust in RTD's writing. So many times in his Doctor Who writing he's come up with astoundingly poor endings, Hand of God cop-outs, reversals ensuring that the previous 45 mins/1hr 30 are rendered meaningless.

Therefore, the death of a major character in episode 4 didn't really strike me as being of any value, being that in episode 5, there could quite easily have been some pat ending which reversed this.

Basic lack of trust in the writer and his stories.

So, still 'nah'.

Having not watched this yet, I'm glad this thread hasn't revealed any major plot spoilers, like the death of a major character or something.
