Speaking of euphemisms, as Lee was here https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/14036
Does anyone know what the original non-euphemistic word for a toilet is? I can't think of a word for it that isn't euphemistic.
Toilet - same root as towel
Water closet - clearly a euphemism
Lavatory - means wash room
Loo - the non-windy side of a ship so it's safe to piss off
Convenience - another euphemism
Commode - just French for 'convenience'
Bog - again, a euphemism
Throne - euphemism
Khazi - probably a corruption of the italian for 'house'
Privvy - corruption of 'private'
Bathroom/washroom/restroom etc. - obvious euphemisms
there's bound to be others but I can't really think of a proper name for it that isn't just some sort of euphemism.
