Training the homeless...

In Glasgow it's been announced that the council are to train homeless people to do specific jobs, in order for them to get employment and stop being homeless.

What jobs do you think a homeless person should do? Funny or Serious - all welcome!

Personally, I think they should be trained to build houses - then problem solved....

They should train as Chefs, Then they could all get live-in jobs at soup kitchens.

Wait a minute, they wouldn't have any customers......

Comedy writers, sitting at home in their pants avoiding daylight or doing something soul less in IT would keep them out of trouble.

Train them to be lamp-posts?

I don't know. Maybe if they were mobile park benches and you could sit on one, read, etc. and he or she could move you from place to place.

To be honest though, I've yet to find a homeless person that I'd ride!!

If your homeless are anything like ours, the government should concentrate on giving them treatment for mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction before they worry about training them for jobs.

:)
Coming from a town with a VA hospital, I think that is exactly right. Most of our guys from the hospital get their treatment, and go home to families that have chucked them. They don't qualify for the hospital any more, even though many are just as bad off as when they went in, so they end up homeless. For being such a small city we have lots of homeless, both vets and mentally ill who for whatever reason can't get into assisted living. Its really sad.

I hate it when I walk down the street and there's too many people. Could I employ a homeless fella to push anyone that gets in my way, sorry, I mean my space?

VA?

VA?

Sorry, Veterans' Association. Its our program for taking care of our veterans when they come home.

Ah, I see.

(It's*)

Sorry, Veterans' Association.

It's actually Veterans Affairs. Wikipedia says:

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans' benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation, survivors' benefits, medical benefits and burial benefits. It is administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Thanks to a VA loan I was able to buy this house with no down payment. :)

Sorry, oops. We actually have a lot of Veterans' groups here. We have the VA, the DAV, and 3 or 4 other little ones, besides the American Legion and the VFW. There's one little onethat's Veterans' _______ Association that's right down the street and I see their sign about 14 times a week. Momentary insanity.

Our hospital seems to only deal with the guys who are here for day treatment programs. There are very few who are permanent residents. It was on the shutdown list a few years back and Hilary Clinton was one of the ones to really push for it to stay open.

Barely-Living statues.
