Why is comedy looked down upon? Page 2

No I'm ruddy well not! Diehard is certainly a fabulous thriller and one that will be watched and discussed for decades to come.

You can't big up comedy and snear at action thrillers or pornography.

You sir are an inverted snob!

I'm not sneering at either; if I was in charge of the Oscars, thenm Die Hard would have been nominated!!

Though to be fair, they don't hand out Oscars to films like Anchorman. There should be a best comedy film Oscar I think, because Will Ferrell, or whoever else, could come out with the funniest film ever made, and it still wouldn't get the nod!

Shakespeare In Love (1998)

Shakespeare in love.

He said comedy.

Apart from the fact that it was amusing, it says so on Yahoo answers and Yahoo answers never lie.

:) That's where I got my answer from too. That and Wiki could rule the world if it wanted too. (I'm not saying that's a good thing) Huh?

How ever there were 5 best screen play comedy oscars between 1998 and 2003.

Not to me it wasn't, it was a pile of old toss.

And the pickle. They always forget the pickle.

Aparently the problem was you brought your own. Still the security camera footage is up for an Oscar according to Wikipedia.

Somehow society perpetuates the idea that comedy in general is lowly, even contemptible.

I don't really think this is, like, even true?

Because if you think of the Baftas, Golden Globes or Emmys, they all have loads of awards 4 comedy.

The Oscars don't so much. But there is always a lot of comedy within the event itself.

And don't forget, the Oscars is usually hosted by somebody that used to be funny. For example, Billy Crystal or Steve Martins.
