'What would you rather have? A Ham sandwhich or everything in the universe?'
'Everything in the universe.'
'Yeah but nothing is better than everything in the universe and a ham sandwhich is better than nothing, so you should have taken the ham sandwhich.'

Quote: Simon Stratton @ August 17, 2007, 4:07 PM'Don't look a gift horse in the mouth' - what is a gift horse? And what's in its mouth?
should I really explain?
gift horse is a horse someone gives you as a gift.
"As horses age their teeth begin to project further forward each year and so their age can be estimated by checking how prominent the teeth are."

Curiously enough, we have the same exact saying in Latvian.
Shame, that is quite a tame answer. Logical though.
When I was a kid I thought gift horses brought gifts, but you shouldn't look in its mouth because there was a BAD gift in there.
I also used to think food and drink went different ways to your stomach, so when food 'went down the wrong way' it had gone down the drink pipe.
