I remember hearing some early Barratt solo stuff that was pretty good. Won some awards and things I think.

He was a very good, very weird stand up. Had a slightly scary/weird persona on stage from what I remember, more manic than as Howard.

He won a BBC New Comedy award in 1995, apparently.
But the rest of the awards were as part of the Boosh.

1995

* Julian Barratt (Winner)
o Daniel Kitson (Finalist)
o Silky (Finalist)
o Lee Mack (Finalist)
o Ambrose Martose (Finalist)
o Viv Gee (Finalist)
o Jeff Mirza (Finalist)
o Nicko

Beating Kitson isn't as impressive as it looks I suppose, he must've been about 15.
Is it this performance of his that I seen then?

Who's Silky?

Here he is, obscenely-young and sans tash.

I saw The Mighty Boosh at The Big Chill music festival last year but they just sang some of their songs and crimps. It was pretty good :) Took them aaaages to come on stage though.

Probably took them that long to rouse Noel from his cocaine and starvation induced coma. ;)

I love noel though Lovey
Although his stand-up is quite crap lol.

I went to see the Boosh on the first tour after their first series, and it was aaaaawesome because the venue was relatively teeny, but I just don't see it as the same now. I mean, going to the 02 and being miles away from them just didn't appeal to me in the same way.

Prezunctly.

1st series was great and easily the best, the 2nd was very good too in spots. 3rd series was disappointing for me (apart from the excellent Crimping and the Crab episodes). I still enjoyed parts of the 3rd, and it was OK overall, but it just seemed like Noel was playing himself and not the character of Vince, a little lacklustre IMO.

Boosh has some great moments, though I can understand people not liking it (aquired taste). The characters are brilliant. My favourites are The Ape of Death and Old Gregg, I'd say. Although Vince Noir is sometimes only funny in smaller doses but Howard's always great. Noel Fielding's other characters are very good (Old Gregg, the Spirit of Jazz, The Hunter).

Fave Boosh moment: The Legend of Milky Joe ... "The man's an arse"... Without doubt my single favourite moment of all the Boosh episodes. Genius. :D

I thought the 3rd series was the worst, except Journey To The Centre Of The Punk, which I thought was very entertaining. I just thought it wasn't as funny as the first or second series.

Yes! My saviour episode from Series 3 too, Charlie!

I would suggest that Vince is a barely-exaggerated version of Noel.

I liked the 3rd series better than the first. It has some great moments and I think a 4th series could be just as good as series 2 if they try focusing less on stories revolving around the store and more of those great episodes of surrealism.
