What happened to Channel 5 comedy?

Okay, they were never exactly big boys on the comedy stage, but I for one was glad to have somebody else other than the BBC and Channel 4 producing comedy. And although they never produced anything particularly great, they didn't disgrace themselves either. Respectable was, er, respectable, and Swingers was no worse than your average BBC 3 sitcom... Are Channel 5 going to try again with some new shows? Or is that it? No more attempts.

If it's not imported - they don't want to know.

Poor Rupert Murdoch, let's all chip in a few quid shall we? He does own it doesn't he? It wouldn't surprise me.

Angelos is coming, which i'm looking forward to. It's got a nice little cast. That's all i'm aware of.

No, it's German at the moment, I believe (RDF).

Anyway, I seem to recall them having a couple of things in the proverbial pipeline at present.

Don't worry Jason. They haven't given up. They can't make much comedy because of budget constraints so they're just saving what they have got up for the autumn / winter schedules (which is when comedy is more traditionally broadcast... to try and help us forget how long it is until summer again).

Angelo's and Suburban Shootout 2 are on the way.

They've been working on a few comedy pilots over the summer too... maybe one of them will make it for a full series.

am I the only one who liked respectable... I probably only noticed jodie albert in a bikini half the time but it was a good show

I really enjoyed it. (And not for pervy reasons.)

I enjoyed it to. I can't understand why it got so much bad mouthing.

I liked Respectable too (for both the general comedy and pervy reasons).

Seriously though, if people could have got past where it was set they'd have found a warm and funny comedy - sadly a lot of people wouldn't give it the chance.

It's probably not a surprise to hear Respectable definitely isn't coming back.

Why was it funny too?

Shame

I know you're being sarcastic, but it is.

I just sent Channel 5 a little synopsis thing. The Comedy Controller won't read it until 28th of August but here's hoping, etc.

Do you remember when Channel 5 first launched? Well, I remember they showed the worst ever sketch show in the history of TV. I can't remember what it was called, but the one sketch I remember was a man walking towards the camera and simply saying "I've just done a poo". Even now, I still cringe.
