How do people think the comedy year is shaping up so far? I can't say I've been overly impressed. The fourth series of Peep Show has probably been my sitcom highlight, and seeing Ricky Gervais mauled by a distinctly unimpressed Gary Shandling was excellent. Aside from those, nothing stands out.
2007: How's it been so far?
Interesting question. I have a really bad memory, but I'm going to say it's been better than last year, but still not amazing. Probably?
Yeah, overall its been a bit naff so far IMHO. I'm hoping it's going to end well though - the networks are holding back their ratings winners until the autumn.
Lead Balloon, Saxondale, Mighty Boosh, Not Going Out, The Green Green Grass, After You've Gone and The IT Crowd are some of the comedies which will be returning this autumn.
No, it's been good. 2007 got off to a great start on the first day of the year with the Dibley special .A good series of My Family, After You've Gone was good and so was Benidorm and we're still in for a massive treat come "The IT Crowd" and a small treat come "The Green Green Grass". Sadly though 2007 will be the year of the worst sketch show in British History: Ruddy Hell It's Harry and Paul, it should have been called Ruddy Hell It's Harrowing and Poor.,
It's the year Leevil decided to concentrate on the comedy genre, so it's been a great year! How did they manage without him, I'll never know?

I'm Mark.
Blah blah blah Blunder! 2006! Blah! Blah Blunder blah. Blah...
If The Green Green Grass gets cancelled before it is shown, then it will be a great year!

Ah that confused me for a moment. I thought "I don't remember posting that already". But, yes...
"Blah blah blah Blunder! 2006! Blah! Blah Blunder blah. Blah..."
Ruddy Hell might not have been brilliant but at least it had one funny sketch (Saw You Coming), which was about ten more funny ones than Blunder had (yes the maths work... because Blunder sucked so much it actually goes way into the negative).
(p.s. I'll shut up one day with my obsession with Blunder I promise - 2012 maybe, I'll have the olympics to whine about then).
The Visits has to be my top 2007 sitcom (very much my type of thing).
Fonejacker (not a sitcom) has brought out the biggest laughs from with in me, but like Trigger Happy and Bo’ Selecta before it’s the novelty will fade. Benidorm, Gavin & Stacey and Roman’s Empire were all Just OK and the rest were rubbish.

Perhaps not the worst (there were so many, they were all poor) but it was very bad, I’m just sick of the sketch show format.

Ah no, I do like that one.

Yeah Heartbeat spin offs are usually pants
Some of the funniest things this year have been unintentional. One of the best was John Sweeney on Panorama losing it with the Scientology guy and shouting and screaming at him. Class. As for actual comedy output, it's not been a great year thus far, but we're about to hit the season where the channels bring out their big guns.
Ruddy Hell might not have been brilliant but at least it had one funny sketch (I saw you Coming)
That sketch was about as funny as dying

Being tickled to death?
For me Still Game has far and away been the best sitcom yet again. It is consistantly funny and hopefully the British Comedy Awards will give them some nominations this time.
I think Gavin and Stacey was pretty good as well. I've enjoyed Hyperdrive this series. I know it gets slagged a bit but I think it's great wee sitcom. Kevin Eldon as York I think is one of my favourtie all-time characters. He just has some brilliant lines.
However, Grownups is just simply awful.
In terms of other comedies Mock The Week just gets stronger and stronger. Star Stories and TV Heaven Telly Hell have been excellent as well.
Looking forward to Saxondale and The IT Crowd.
So, overall, 2007 = a triumph!
