I'm familiar with the Daily Mail, but you can't claim it's not balanced when it's reporting official police policy and procedures, can you?

Yes. Their stories tend to be quite biased. All the facts and figures in the world mean f**k all without balanced explanations of how they're collected and what exactly they do and don't cover. A lot of the Mail's stuff has firm grounding in reality, but is exaggerated to stupid levels.

Lucky for you, eh, Dolly?

British people are not slow to anger, that is a myth. Historically, we've been the most violent people who've ever strode the planet. We avoid murdering each other because we live on a tiny island and can't escape from the authorities easily.

In my limited experience, I'd say that the UK has a much higher rate of drunken violence and crime than the United States. I've spent maybe a month total in the UK and a few dozen hours in pubs and on public transit and I've had a few run-ins with inebriated guys who seemed to be itching for a fight. I extricated myself from the situation, but I haven't had those kinds of problems here.

All in all, Brits seem to like to throw fists more than Americans. But once an American gets in a fight he's more likely to reach for a weapon.

Prohibition is the answer.

now working with homeless dogs in the East End of London.

That sounds like Daily Mail talk where I come from. The PC term is "plain women of no fixed abode."

cherry picking the facts and figures which support their agenda.

It's all part of the game. The BBC do it too, no?

But the question remains: Did the police issue the instructions or not?

Prohibition is the answer.

Yep, although DaButt's point is something I've felt personally. I felt safer in backwater bars in the US than any pub in Britain around closing time. The new generation of tanked up twats thinking a fist is the answer to life needs a cull. Can't we persuade the Canadian seal killers to spare the seals and come over here each summer?

As to cherrypicking figures, every news institution is guilty of that, every corporation, every self-interested pressure group. Statistics is the ability to lie via mathematics.

All media outlets do it. Just depends on the extent to which.

Drink is a massive problem in this country.

It is at the route of a lot of problems.

We do have a drink culture here in the UK. Everything is about getting drunk or how much you can drink without being drunk.

It is very ingrained as well. The leader of the opposition party once claimed to drink 10 pints in a night because he thought it would be "cool" to the younger generation.

It drew Aaron in anyway.

I suspect Hague drank 10 pints, but it wasn't beer....

As for Canada is that Curt wandering around punching people in the back of the head?

I warned them once to stop talking trash about Doctor Who.
Their second warning was when they turned their backs.

Hi,

Thanks to you all for your help. I have read the posts relating to my initial post and found it all very useful.

Somone suggested I "do something outside of my comfort zone", so I did. I joined a gym this morning.
