My life feels in limbo at the moment... Page 8

The NHS also does sex changes which as it involves removing the penis from people confused enough to want to have it removed. Probably helps with the genepool.

The NHS does give breast enlargements where there is clear evidence that it will improve the patients psychological health.

I couldn't be bothered to type all of that, but yes.

NICE who make funding decisions for the NHS do an amazing job.

NICE are an abhorrent shambles. But that's another discussion altogether.

VIOLENT CRIME PER 100,000 PERSONS

The sharp rise in the UK is due to changes to recording procedures, BTW.

So the answer is to reamend the recording procedure? :P

British people are not slow to anger, that is a myth.

No it's not.

Quote: Renegade Carpark @ June 23 2009, 5:02 PM BST

Historically, we've been the most violent people who've ever strode the planet.

Violence does not equate anger - and there's a difference between 'violence' towards others and violence within our own country, which is what we're talking about now. Besides, much of that "historical violence" has been justified by religion, and I can't be bothered to check dates but I would wager that the vast majority was under directives from that gimp in Rome.

system has evolved that positively discrimenates against those who wish to better themselves and be successful.

Well that is certainly true.

I equate good weather with it not being miserable, cold and depressing for most of the year.

British people are not slow to anger, that is a myth. Historically, we've been the most violent people who've ever strode the planet. We avoid murdering each other because we live on a tiny island and can't escape from the authorities easily. That is the only deterrent.

I'm not having a go at single mothers - just the crap ones who raise broods of rampaging criminals.

The NHS funds an entire range of cosmetic surgery and in the main, it is for vital cases. However they also fund (in my opinion) trivial operations including sex changes which run into the tens of thousands of pounds. Sorry, we'd like to move you up the hip replacement queue but we spent the dough on turning Andrew into Andrea.

My main gripe with living in the UK is that I feel my freedoms are comprimised and a system has evolved that positively discrimenates against those who wish to better themselves and be successful.

NICE's calculations are awsomely difficult. Hip operations happen quite swiftly in my experience. And if I need a sex change and a set of Pammy sized boobs to live my life and I've paid into the pot, then tough I'm entitled.

The really problem is people demanding £30,000+ a year worth of drugs that might, just might give another 6 months life.

The NHS is paralysed by knee jerk public opinion inflamed by the tabloids.

Better paliative care, prevenative care, more counselling and proper mental health services would make a massive diference. But these are unfashionable Cinderella services.

Also a sensible gown up debate on Euthenasia would help

They're the model for most other countries funding choices and protocols. Including the US and the rest of Europe who just have more money to pay for stuff.

We need more NHS funds then we need aircraft carriers and Trident subs.

Basically what we're all saying here Alex, is that you should just get over that girl.

And get a job or a sex change.

Ha!

I'm going on record as saying: I love Britain and I love America and Canada... and daresay I love the people there too. But that's because I avoid the towns. I'm always driving down some forgotten road, not knowing where I'll stop for the night. The people in the wilderness are much more laid back.

Of all the places in the world, if I left Britain it would be for the western half of North America. Give me canyons and red rock country.

And where's that inconsiderate git of an OP, eh? Now he's started this all off.

Yeah, it's all his fault! What I should have written is 'man up and grow a pair'.

Plus he sounds young, he's going to live in California and he's probably got his whole future ahead of him, so he can bugger off. Laughing out loud

I think you'll find he took my excellent advice and is now working with homeless dogs in the East End of London. I love it when a plan comes together... Cool

Erm, I'm not sure how familiar you are with the newspapers in the UK DaButt, but the Daily Mail would like the police to arrest people for being brown. Not exactly a balanced view.

As I understand it - I haven't got the figures to hand but I'm sure I've read this somewhere - the US has one of the highest rates of incarceration per capita in the Developed world. My knowledge of the American penal system is derived purely from shows like Law and Order and various novels, so I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but is it necessarily a good thing to jail people for relatively 'minor' crimes?

I'm familiar with the Daily Mail, but you can't claim it's not balanced when it's reporting official police policy and procedures, can you? We have Fox News over here, but you can't automatically discount anything they report - especially if it's hard news. You can't discredit the message just because you don't like the messenger.

Americans hate paying taxes, but they hate criminals even more. They'll always pony up more money for new prisons and police officers. You won't find many first-time offenders being jailed for minor offences. The average inmate has embarked on a lifetime of crime and I'd much rather he be locked away than running the streets and stealing my stuff.

I wasn't saying that UK cops need to incarcerate petty criminals at every opportunity, but to let them off without an arrest, a night or two in jail and a court appearance sends the wrong message, as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, it's a myth that NHS funds are being swallowed up by boob jobs, IVF and sex changes.

It's not hard news, though. It's merely a spin they're putting on it. And anyway, Fox and the Mail are well versed in partially reporting the news, and cherry picking the facts and figures which support their agenda.

(That said, those nutjob pundits on Fox are quite entertaining).
