Our fledgling jazz fest is winding down here and I'm getting all mopey about all the people I'll never get to see perform.

I had a great time at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in April. A lot of it wasn't really jazz, but there are still some great jazz artists out there. My friend covered Coltrane's entire "Interstellar Space" album on guitar and drums. It's not for everyone, but it makes my head spin in a good way.

Cool. We had Dave Brubeck, Smokey Robinson, Taj Mahal, Susan Tedeschi, and a mountain of other artists. Not all jazz (The Marshall Tucker Band for example) but a decent line up nevertheless.

I sat next to Smokey Robinson on a 12-passenger plane about 20 years ago.

I gave Liberace's driver directions to the NYS Thruway when I was just a little kid. He rolled down the window to wave thanks and wish me a good day at school. I saw his sparkly sunglasses. Such brushes with fame at such a young age. Tee hee.

The Liberace museum in Las Vegas is one of my guilty pleasures. What a character.

When I was about 9 or 10 (this would have been circa 1982/3), playing with my friends outside our church youth club one summer's evening, a car pulled up and the driver asked for directions - though he really just seemed interested in chatting to us for a while. That driver was Paul Gadd (aka Gary Glitter, who used to live in Bristol). Nothing untoward happened.

Sick

Listening to Television's Marquee Moon album out on the deck as the sun sets. Hopefully the neighbors don't mind.
