That Mitchell And Webb Look - Series 3 Page 7

I have to admit last night's episode was really disappointing. However, I thought that 'hit and miss' sketch was brilliant. Really funny. Especially, the mention of being self-referential.

I loved the Gary Roads impression, including the little bit of text which said he would not be appearing, it was good the way he also kept morphing into Nigel Kennedy, this comedy is so inteligent IMO

Sorry. Not a popular opinion round here but I'll stick to my guns.

:)
Nothing wrong at all with not liking them. was just making sure you were serious.
(It is a quite unusual opinion I must admit, not about Mitchell & Webb, but about Fry & Laurie.)

Good episode, I really liked the one with the womans beauty kit, and the men just shaving and drinking beer. Reminded me in feel of a Serafinowicz(?) style sketch.

Oh, and all the little movie bits, Posh Jaws, Polite Taxi Driver, were very nice.

Polite Taxi Driver was the highlight of what I thought a good show, as good as the first.

Still not convinced by the 1970s sitcom esque sketch though. Henniman (?) Has probably got a longer lifespan than my favourite all time M+W sketch Bawdy 1970s Hospital, mind...

"Shall I get my cock out?"

I really enjoyed the programme, maybe one or two sketches went on a bit too long.
I do like the Hennimore ones because I know kind of whats coming & enjoy it when it does.
The Hit & Miss was excellent as was The Double Mitchell & Double Webb sketch.
I don't know who's writing all the 'misses' but they aren't doing very well in my book.

I've really enjoyed the first two episodes of the new series. I loved the first series, but didn't enjoy the second one nearly as much (although a second viewing improved my opinion of it considerably), but this series has been their best work for me.

I really enjoyed the brain surgeon and Poirot sketches in the first episode. I could see the punchline coming a mile away in the first sketch when the rocket scientist came in, but it was perfectly done. The spy drama sketch was pretty funny as well.

The second episode was even funnier for me. The polite taxi driver was excellent, as was the quiz show sketch (which is easily my favourite of the recurring sketches this series). The hit and miss sketch was a great and smart way to hit out at critics, of which I think there are far too many of this fantastic sketch show.

My favourite of the show was the snooker commentators. The opening line cracked me up: "It's been me life. I've been obsessed with it, me whole life. That and snooker."

My only criticism would be that the new recurring sketches have simply not been that funny, other than the quiz show one I mentioned earlier. They should stick to one off sketches.

So I think it's been great stuff so far. Sure there are a few poor sketches here and there, but this is the case with all sketch shows, and there have been more "hits than misses". I'm looking forward to the rest of the series if it stays to the same high standard.

After watching the first episode I agree it was a bit disappointing. Very hit and miss. I must admit though, they are original. Some of it was just so bizarre I cannot comprehend how they possibly came up with these ideas. Queen Victoria complaining that linden trees smell of cum? The patented flank pat system for finding books? It's bonkers.

The spy bit was great but lifted straight out of their old radio show.

Anyways, I hope it only gets better. However, the brain surgeon/rocket scientist bit was simple but hilarious.

Hah, just watched the second episode, and mind you, I hadn't read any of your comments prior to JUST calling it "hit and miss"... also alot of "they are too self referential" comments by others before that episode. Hilarious. If there is one thing they definitely don't lack its self awareness. They know their brand of comedy, it's strengths, its weaknesses, and the crowd they are aiming for when they make it.

This episode was better.. I definitely laugh and enjoy but it's no Peep Show. The polite taxi driver and posh jaws were probably the funniest bits despite being only a couple seconds long. Are you talking to me? Oh I'm so sorry, I thought you were talking to me.

And Cawley, I agree... apart from the "bad/vicar/waiter/etc" sketch and the pet hospital one, the bawdy 1970s is the highlight. Some day I'm going to wait for the most awkward pause in a conversation and just say "Shall I get my cock out?"... unfortunately, I don't think they'll get the reference and I'll end up bleeding.

Just watched episode 2 again and personally I think it's the strongest sketch show episode they've ever done. The only weak(-ish) sketch was the bank robbing ventriloquist, which was too big a set-up for the eventual pay-off. Best sketch was the 'Death' Ray one.

Best sketch was the 'Death' Ray one.

I think 90% of the budget went on that one!

Don't you mean episode 2?

Disappointing - I was hoping you had mastered that time travel thing.

:D

As soon as I master time travel you will be the first to know. It's number 3 on my list of "things to master" just under 1) hypnotising women and 2) penis enlargement using the power of the mind.
