I tend to agree with the notion of the predictabilty of the programme. It isn't specific things so much as the entire milieu within which they're working. But then I never had any time for LOG, so I was never going to be predispoded towards this.

I just don't understand what you're talking about. Forgive my thickness, but are you saying that as a dark murder mystery comedy, the show is predictable in that you know it's going to feature dark murder mystery comedy? Because I'm not entirely certain how you could make the show anything other than its basic premise.

I guess I've always found their work a little too studied. And I've never found them that funny. Which doesn't help. In which case I probably shouldn't reaaaally have bothered watching the thing.

I really enjoyed it and watched it again today! The only bit that didn't work for me was the clown, I thought I had seen it somewhere before and now I remember where Brassed Off! Almost the same routine - apart from the "hands".

Certainly the blind man stands out for me.

Snap! :)

Bollocks!
Missed it.
I've series-linked the rest, but are they repeating Ep 1, or are they i-podding it on the illfracombe. (Something for you Count Arthur fans, there.)

All I meant was that this followed the same formula as LOG but less successfully. It's so easy to make up bizarre characters like this. I could ask any of my writing colleagues to come up with ten characters like these and it wouldn't take them more than an hour tops.
Not enough jokes to make it worth the effort and the 'cash in hand' gag was shameful.
I used to be a fan. I've worked with some of the Gents. I like them. I think this is weak.
And Lee, we also work together, so if you'd like to give me a lesson in the correct usage of the phrase 'done to death' I'll be very happy to listen.

When you said the show was predictable I assumed it was the plot you were referring to, which plainly isn't predictable, so sorry for any confusion.
I hear "done to death" a lot and I couldn't really get where you were coming from saying that incestuous characters have been done to death. I can't think of a single instance, that's all. If you're talking about the same type of dark characters being done before in TLOG then yes, of course I agree with that. But I can't really see Shearsmith and Pemberton ever writing the new Good Life...as you know they're huge horror fans and it's obviously in their blood.
I don't think it's as good as TLOG...yet. There's still time for it to bed in though, surely.

No need to get annoyed, it's just a conflicting opinion. I may be wrong, it's happened before! :)

We've worked together? On what?

PS: The cash in hand gag was a bit corny I'll admit.

It's just started, give it a chance. I think you're being far too damning. Yes, most writers could come up with 'dark characters', but not everyone can then make them work.

Nowt wrong with that little aside to me. :)

I thought it was quite good. Don't get me wrong... not great, but good.

Of course, yeah, it's their style. It's like complaing about series seven of Morecambe And Wise because it's too much like Morecambe and Wise!
