Jackson Pollock was asked to produce a series of sketches to help his psycho-analyst, and this appears to have inspired him to paint a troubling work," Naked Man with Knife". I wonder how your writing might be affected, if you thought a shrink was going to examine it? Or for that matter, your child, mother or a typical audience? Often people claim they create their art for themselves, but I think it's always for an audience really. Perhaps writers would create different (funnier?) work if they imagined an unusual target audience.
So where does that leave my sketch; about the guy who murders someone with terminal cancer at a reunion? Or the one where Gordon Brown becomes an incontinent suicide bomber, or Skippy the paedophile kangaroo or the one where Karren Mathews uses her last phone call to demand sex.

A run of French new-wave and Bergman films has left me humourless... the only one worse than this was the Mike Leigh run that resulted in me thinking constantly about sex and how everyone in private must be having it at every second of every day to depressing music in a grotty room.
