I'm trying to help Carly by making sure it scans!

"You're so small, your cock barely enters my fanny" ? Happy now?

Very.

Conversely, does anyone admit to secretly delighting in a (supposed) friend's failure?

Never. I am sorry, I am very boring but I can say hand on heart this doesn't happen with me. I don't get that whole thing at all. If something good happens to someone I know, I get very excited and bad, I feel very sorry for them. I am not really a competitive person, sometimes a good thing, sometimes bad. Maybe I'm missng a gene somewhere. :)

I think this makes you slightly more worrying than those who get a secret kick out of a friend's failure.

(But congrats on getting the thread back on topic)

I think it's just to do with the way I was raised. I was taught that everything in life is a journey, not a race. If someone I knew was secretly annoyed I achieved something, while I would not say anything and it would not affect my friendship with them, I would be very hurt deep down.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong to feel those feelings. We all have our reasons for feeling the way we feel and emotions can't really be controlled but for me, it's a little alien, that's all. :) I'd rather enjoy the process of getting better at something or learning something new than beating others. I was taught that it was 'an emotional roller coaster'.

When the revolution comes, you will be first up against the wall.

Someone once said that the best friendships between two people, are ones where each of the friends secretly thinks he/she is a little bit better than the other.

It worked for Little & Large.

For a good hard shag? You're going a bit far with the concept of communal ownership...

Spreading love and happiness is hard work. Sometimes the risk of also spreading crabs is a price to pay.

I always thought that too. He's not actually being vain to assume the song is about him if the song is about him, surely? He's just being correct.

I always assumed the irony was intentional.

Isn't that song ultimately Carly Simon's way of reminding us that she's shagged one of the 20th centuries leading cocksmen?

I wrote a sketch about this song's lyrics and it went down a storm at London Comedy Writers. Couldn't flog it anywhere though as a BBC producer made the same point - i.e that it's Carly Simon's own joke.

I might post the sketch here some time for fun.
