Nice post, Curt. We had some from two or three years ago on one of our digital TV stations, but they stopped showing it. I think some of the current team are really good. Quite a few seem to be gradually filtering through to films, particulalry of the Judd Apathow variety. A great pity we've got nothing of the same ilk in this country.

Yea I think the new cast is one of the best they've had in years. I think they do well when they grab comedians from different styles and force them to work together. They do they're worst work when they hire actors who they think could be funny.

How could you leave out Adam Sandler? The sketches he did with Chris Farley were 'da shizzle'. It had that Pete and Dud feel as Sandler was on the verge of corpsing each time.

Yea, Sandler and Farley sketches were some of the best. I remember laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes the first time I saw the skit where Adam Sandler was asking if he could do things around the house for you and then Chris Farley would yell into the camera "WHY WON'T YOU JUST LET HIM MOW YOUR LAAAWN?!?!". I must a gut when he finally said "Won't you just let me give your grandmother a bath? I won't peak I promise".
The Gay beer commercial was gold too.

Of the current crop I think Bill Hader is genius. I also like Andy Samberg and Kristen Weig.

I agree those 3 make SNL right now. Bill Hadar reminds me of early SNL days of Bill Murray. And Samberg is so different it breaks up the show well. He's good in the regular sketches too.

When it was shown over here, a couple of years ago, some of the sketches were terrible, but they kept doing them, week in, week out. The worst was probably the one about that obnoxious couple, who are always chewing gum. Then there was the one about the woman who was always trying to out-do people, by lying about herself, then saying, "So..."

Laughing out loud Yea that was a pretty bad one. I'm pretty sure that was Kristen Weig too. I'll chalk it up under artistic growing pains.

There's a lot of that going on!

I love Andy Samberg! Hot Rod is such a funny film. The Loney Island are great too!

How did Morwena Banks get on it?

How did Morwena Banks get on it?

This was at a time when she was "hotly-tipped" to have a big career in the US. She's an exceptionally talented performer, so I'm not suprised SNL wanted her. I think the idea was (though I'm sure not Morwena's) that she would be the "next Tracy Ullman". Despite brilliant performances in Catterick and Saxondale, she seems to be criminally underused in British comedy at the moment. Perhaps she does a lot of radio or stage work, I don't know?

Yea they usually only grab 'up and comers'. There are exceptions of course like Michael McKean and Mark McKinney who like Tim said fall in the under utilized category.
Pamela Stephenson was New Zealand, Tony Rosato was Italian.

Dana Carvey, when drunk, bitter and reflecting on his career...

Has anyone mentioned Mike Myers?

Tim Brooke-Taylor also mentioned Mike Myers in an unaired segment of a 'Where Are They Now?' show filmed for Australian TV. Tim said The Goodies were a clear influence on the first Austin Powers film.

Mike Myers is Canadian. Very very Canadian.

Yes, but he had to work with Timmy Mallet on a UK children's TV show to learn his comedy trade. Would never have become successful without graduating from WAC.
