DRAWN TOGETHER?
A MAN COMES TO READ THE METER IN JILLS HOUSE.
METER READER
Hi there. I'm here to read the meter.
JILL
Sure, come in, it's just under that cupboard.
THE METER READER LOOKS UP AT THE KITCHEN WINDOW. WE CAN SEE DRAWINGS OF KIDS ON THE WINDOW.
METER READER
Is that, is that your kids?
JILL
Yes.
METER READER
What are they like eh? They've made some mess there have they not.
JILL
(angry)
What! Just who do you think you are. Coming in here accusing my kids of drawing on the window.
METER READER
No. The garden, look at the mess they've made of the garden.
JILL(excited disbelief)
Oh. Erm. Yes. So they have. But. (pause) The drawings?
METER READER
What drawings?
JILL
(bewildered/slowly)
On...the...window?
THE METER READER SHAKES HIS HEAD.
METER READER
Nope, nothing. But those kids of yours really are little crackers. Look at them. You must be proud.
JILL
Em. Yes.
METER READER
Your youngest looks deceivingly like mine. Same hair and everything.
JILL
Nooo...really?
METER READER
Yea, they're just out there in the car (pointing outside) look.
JILL LOOKS OUT TO A CAR. THERE ARE 3 KIDS DRAWN ON THE CAR WINDOW.
END
------
Now I'm not entirely sure whether I should have Jill believe the meter reader is crazy and has just drawn kids on his window and ask him to leave or just leave it as it is. Feedback greatly appreciated as always.
