Wasn't National Lampoon's Summer vacation the one where Chevy falls asleep at the wheel? And the exact same gag was used in Father Ted, which I think is about the place this thread came in.
I think it was National Lampoon's European Vacation that had Chevy Chase saying the word "the". Years later the exact same word, "the", was used in Lesbian Anal Whores #7. Coincidence? I think not.

Actually, while we're back on the original subject of plagiarism, I remember Peter Kay once telling an anecdote, during one of his stand-up shows, that was exactly the same as one that had been told by a contestant on Family Fortunes.
As for the National Lampoons Christmas film, it was quite funny, I thought. Surely I'm not the only person on here to think that. The one they did after that, set in Las Vegas, was pretty shit though.

Ah, yes but you never know, a writer on Family Fortunes may have supplied 'innocent' Peter Kay with it; i.e. 'receiving goods not knowing them to be stolen'.

There are plenty of examples of performers unconsciously ripping off movies/books etc. The OP's probably right. I would expect most comedians to have seen Caddyshack.
