Why not just leave them be? Like people in an address book you never contact, does it matter if they are there or not?

Depends on who they are and how I "knew" them in the first place. There are a few people who would fall into that category for me who I wouldn't delete for professional (and BCG) networking reasons. But apart from those, I would hesitate (as I'm too British and don't want to be rude or attract confrontation), but ultimately I feel no need or urge to have them so wouldn't have a problem hitting the delete button.
I tend to just accept people who add me, as most of them are people from school. I'm planning a cull of my 'friends' once summer starts, because there's a lot of people I'm very anxious to just 'drift apart from'.
I have a few friends but I'm always too worried about emailing people in case I come across as a pushy sod. Even when they email me first. On a social networking site I'm still as anti-social as I am in real life and so a bit of a flop.
