BBC Radio Producers

Morning,

I've written a 15 minute comedy and thought it might be suitable for radio. Anyone know whether bbc radio producers accept e-mails from writers? Not necessarily e-mailed submissions but more an e-mail with a few questions?

Cheers.

I think they're quite open to enquiries, providing you match up your project to a producer who's produced similar shows. Be smart about it and approach somebody who's work you like.

Also worth listening to some of the comedy strands on the radio and checking out the production companies. They seem to outsource a lot at R4

From what Jane Berthoud said - yes you can send it to a producer but you should email them first and make sure they are OK with you sending it as they are all very busy.

What chipolata said - make sure you send it to the right producer. No point sending it to someone who won't be interested in your particular style.

Where do I find a list of producers? Or are they mentioned after the shows etc?

I'm aware that R7 play mostly old British comedy.

They're mentioned after the shows. And to be honest, if you don't listen to radio comedy, and are just using it as stepping styone to get to TV, you might not get very far. The people who get furthest are those who actually take the time to listen to Radio 4 and are actual fans of the medium.

Good luck!

I have also written a series of four 15 minutes comedy playlets for radio. And I am interested in sending them off to the Beeb.

Usually you would go through the writersroom with radio scripts and Radio 7 do play mostly older comedy but there are starting to broadcast more and more newer comedies especially 15 minute ones, so the timing for a new 15 minute comedy is perfect. Keep me informed on how it goes as I would be interested to know what the Beeb views our on new 15 comedies.

I would say it would be more useful to go direct to a BBC producer or approach a production company that actually produces comedy content for the radio.

I listened back to a couple of episodes of 15 minute comedies. Unfortunately they cut it just before the cast and producer are named. Damn!

You'll also find the producer for each radio show named in the listings in The Radio Times.

Ok, cool. Thanks.
