I think it's more important to be a comic who just happens to be female that a female comic. In an ideal world, there shouldn't be that divide. I rarely rely on gender stereotypes as I find this boring and over done. I do write a lot of stuff with both male and female parts (giggle and smirk) but my focus is humour and surrealism, not gender. It's only when you focus on being a woman struggling in a man's world that you become one.
Nothing is sadder that a woman who has to rely constantly on stereotypical sexual roles to be funny. Just be you! Gender is at the bottom of the list, having fun and doing what you love is the first.
