I've dipped in and out with it for several years for both animation and single image renders. It does have a fairly steep learning curve (sadly all 3D apps do) but it's a lot of fun once you get past that.
The user community is amazingly helpful over at BlenderArtists.org and all the manuals and tutorials for it are open source and on the web for free. There is a getting started Wikibook.

This is the only animation I've ever produced with it. very basic but it did only take a w/e.

It's an Amazing piece of software. Especially if you compare the featutres to Maya/3DS max which would cost you thousands.
Blender is a good entry level 3d piece of software mate. I use 3D MAx and Maya but they are mind melting sometimes. All depends what your looking at doing really.
Cheers dudes. Might have a play with it later then
Need any help give us a shout.

Zbrush is quite good. Easy to make great textures.

Problem is when using sculpting tools they have a massive poly count, and sometimes don't deform properly when skining them. Or they take along time to render and when you have hundreds of frames to render every poly counts, especially if your doing proper lighting.
Bite my shiny metal ass!
