Thanks! Ah, RocketDog, I like their trainers.
BNP - Could it really happen? Page 7
Quote: sootyj @ June 6 2009, 4:46 PM BSTRacism is a bit like fugu sushi. Very difficult to cut with out releasing the poison.
True - but those with influence are, I'm sure, wise enough to tell what the "poison" is and ignore it. If we didn't try things just because they were difficult, we'd all be living in mud huts in Ethiopia and talking in clicks.
Quote: sootyj @ June 6 2009, 4:46 PM BSTIf you come to this country you should be expected required by law to learn the language and pay for it
Or mudhuts in Kent!
True I like to feel I can spot the poison. Our current system allows some people to carry out horrible abuse through playing the more PC areas of the system. If you stop you wife learning English, or going out and keep her pregnant then it's hard for her to seek help.
Sometimes you need to support people inspite of themselves. The right to work as a homehelp for pennies 7 days a week and live in the basement is not much of a right.
N.B. The language thing Gordy was going to push that through, in one of his periodic attempts to show DaveyC he had a bigger willy. He gave up when he realised it would cost money.
Quote: sootyj @ June 6 2009, 4:37 PM BSTSorry Renegade I suspect your friends should take some advice from the job centre on retraining or going for a diferent job, rather than aimless racist whining.
And most decent unqualified jobs in care, education etc are available with anyone with the patience to do 6 months voluntary work. Which is what I did.
I will explain to my friends that the foreigners are not to blame when it comes to lack of decent jobs being available. It's normally down to class based nepotism and old boys networks anyways.
I will also tell them to not look for paying work but to do 6 months voluntary work with absolutely no guarantee of employment at the end of it, preferably in an area where they have no desire to do well and have no expertise whatsover.
Seeing as you can't stand people whining about the job situation, I imagine that you will never complain about the lack of opportunities in the world of comedy writing.
Anyways, we're veering way off topic. Could the BNP happen here? No. Something similar was tried before in the East End many, many years ago involving brown shirts and that failed abysmally.
Fringe parties never stand much chance of taking control, but they serve a helpful role. A respectable showing in the polls forces the other parties to modify their platforms ever so slightly. The end result isn't radical change, but a slight bending to the public's will. And that's a good thing.

.
Well it's about 95% chance of employment. I thought you said they'd be willing to do any job. And as for unpaid most voluntary work allows you to claim the benefits you were claiming anyway and if not will pay an equivalent stipend.

Not really or else I wouldn't bother writing. Just because it's unfair doesn't mean it's not worth trying. And frankly enough people succed with out help in comedy for me top put up and shut up.

60-70 years and it came quite close.
And the same song of I'm not racist I just don't like immigrants has been sung to a diferent tune for years.
Well they won a seat, anyone got an attic I can write my diary in?

Hmmm, did all those young men die for nothing?!
Quote: Griff @ June 7 2009, 11:57 PM BSTI was going to say "Why not email them and ask?", and went to their website to find their email address.
Turns out their website doesn't have an email address as far as I can see. I wonder why.
It does, however, have this page which may give a possible clue to their position in the racist/non-racist spectrum.
Haha!

I fear if they ever grasp the concept of irony we may be in real trouble.
