ScreenPlay Productions Ltd

Any experience of this company?
They e-mailed via this site asking for Script samples.
They have a web site etc, just wondered if anyone here had any more info?

Have a look at their Talent section, then writers, you'll find Tim Walker and Seefacts on there.

I was involved with them for about a year, though it never went anywher in the end. David Bussell had a thing with them for a while also. Basically several people off here have.

Do they act as agents, then? 'Cos I'm already agent-ed up.

And if any of you others guys want to pass on your experiences - all info appreciated.

I'll send stuff anyway - just want to know what to expect!

I think they do act as some of their 'talents' agents, but that's just another part of their business, they don't have to be your agent or anything to use you.

The Slaggs can't praise Jan high enough. There is a great interview he did for Ch4(?) that was posted in WD in its entirety.

I always like to start the new year with it. :)

Jan is currently taking a radio sitcom pilot of mine to meetings with radio producers. I guess my name won't appear on the writers list on their site until something more substantial happens.

He gave me a LOT (several paragraphs) of feedback about the scripts I sent to him, which was helpful.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I'm currently compiling a particularly noxious pile of shit to send them.
Wish me luck.

I know a few people have involved with them in some way or another over a year or two since I have been on here, anything happened?

Last I heard, they were soon to be putting some kind of reader/development scheme in place and hiring a bunch of readers, rather like Writersroom.

Jan said he was doing this to get rid of the huge backlog of scripts. Plus he wanted to be different by nurturing and developing the most promising scripts and their writers instead of just rejecting them.

I know that doesn't answer your question, Mark, but it's still an interesting development that I thought I'd add to this thread.

I sent Jan a script in November 07, he liked it and pitched it to the BBC. They (quite) liked it and with a re-write commissioned a pilot script in Jul 08 for which I received a writers fee. Sadly the BBC dumped it in December. I have just returned from holiday to an email from Jan saying he generally likes the most recent script I sent him. Like the Slaggs, I can't praise him enough.

Yep, I agree - Screenplay is rare in that Jan offers guidance and advice rather than just a 'No'. As they get more busy, I guess it's harder for him to do that, but I too owe him a great deal of thanks.

You might have a (justified) wait on your hands but Jan is famous for dispensing top notch advice.

Jan is a brilliant guy. He's very knowledgeable and gives very good feedback (as in useful, not necessarily positive). He's been a great help in putting our Edinburgh show together this year.

Is he just a helpful guru then? What's the Productions bit about. Does he make programmes or just advise people?
