The Green Green Grass axed! Page 3

Like I said, axed? Shelved? It's the same thing. :)

Well I for one hope it's only been "shelved". However, shelving is a good sign of an axing.

Surely it's very hard to permanently axe a show? Personnel changes at TV companies, commissioners and commissioning editors move on and are replaced by new people, so even if a show is axed, it could be brought back years later by new people... Like I say, axed? Shelved? Same thing.

Shelving is more "We're interested in more, but don't want to commit ourselves right now".

Axing is "We don't want any more."

And yeah, axed shows can be brought back. But it's harder, because the production and on-screen talent will have moved on, perhaps even died or otherwise left the industry. I see your point, and normally shelving does lead to axing (although personally I don't like the term as it implies more of a cancellation than just not ordering new episodes), but IMO there is a subtle difference.

On Points Of View it was stated that NGO and AYG have been axed, not TGGG. Shelved in this sense probably will mean Series 5 - probably in 2011 though.

Personally I think it's wrong when they don't even let a whole series of a show be shown before taking it off the air. ITV have done that a few times recently.

I enjoyed The Green Green Grass series 1, 2 and 3 but I did think that series 4 was not as good.

I agree - although it happens all the time in America I understand when ratings are bad.

I hope they don't bring it back. It was a poor spin off of a stronger parent show which the BBC had already screwed up. I definetly agree The Green Green Grass was far too cartoonish in its humour. OFAH had some wacky plots, but the characters were generally well rounded. All TGGG gave were yokel stereotypes.

Only Fools and Horses and The Green Green Grass exist in two separate universes as far as realism is concerned. I don't believe for a moment that the Boycie who appeared in Fools and Horses is the guy who woke up with no body hair in Green Green Grass.

I know you guys already know but the show has been shelved but hopefully it does return as it's such a good show. On Wikipedia they claimed they were getting 4 million viewers per episode.

I almost forgot it's National Sarcasm Day. :D

lol

It should return. John Challis was on Loosewoman (3rd June 09) and said "Green Green Grass costs alot to make and with the BBC skint they have put it on hold. John [Sullivan] is writing other stuff at the moment so it has been laid to rest... for now"

This is not his exact words but that was the jist of it. I bet John's other project is the prequel! Oh dear.

Why did it cost so much? Is it just because it cost anything? Whatever it cost would be too much?
