Good point. Also, if toilets were positioned on ceilings then they wouldn't be beneath you when you cleaned them >_<

I was thinking something similar. :D

Actually it was, "You shouldn't sit on it whilst trying to clean them, then it wouldn't be." :D

Yours was more sensible, upside down toilets is a bit of a stretch. :D

:D You don't wanna stretch it, you might do yourself an injury.

Not bad. We should form a comedy team, the Skid Marx Brothers. :D

No, what we'll be paying for is the Government's bailouts. Bonuses have been happening for decades and no-one's complained or even noticed until now.

I suppose one person's capitalist hero is another person's sponging tosspot. I just we had a 'Kick a banker up the arse' day. It would make me feel better.

"British Jobs for British people" is all well and good but British people don't want to work, that's why we have so many professional unemployed. "I'm not toilet cleaning it's beneath me" etc...All part of the larger social problem.

Not strictly true Gavin, I know people who are desperate for work, any kind of work.

However, when you live on a small island with over 500,000 illegal immigrants in London alone, competition for even the lowliest paid, cash in hand job is incredibly high.

A few years ago, the Polish builders came in and pretty much wiped out competition in the building trade by working longer hours for lower wages.

It's frightening when you hear even your most PC of friends start to complain about the levels of immigration.

I was generalising, andthat's fair comment. But there are other parts of the country why stay somewhere where there are no jobs?

Because they've never been so huge. Seriously 30 years ago bankers didn't expect to earn 10-20 times as much as others, it made them incautious.

When ever I've recruited for care posts (often paying double minimun wage with other goodies thrown in). The number of English people who go for these jobs is tiny as compared to foreign workers.

Is that not the same as what I was saying?

London has more jobs than job seekers. And these people seeking even the loweliest job? Give me a break I've worked in employment support and I've been out of work, people can drop their standards. Even the worst unemployment black spots have jobs in the paper.

The elephant on the table is the ratio of minimun wage to minimun benefit is out of sink. Pay a proper minimun wage and tighten benefits and enforcement and you'll see a diference.

My friend is the nicest guy. He is from China. He had to leave with his wife and child, leaving his father and brothers behind. Back in China he was a very well paid laywer and his wife was a midwife. They fled because his life was in danger when he helped a client because their human rights were being violated to leave the country themselves. He now works in a burger place. His qualifcations mean nothing here. Same for his wife who cleans in a bar. When they first came here, he could not speak one word of English. Everytime I see their daughter, I feel awful because they had to leave their home, their friends, a good life to live in a grubby hostel and it was a choice between that or for the child to grow up without her father. But no matter all this, not one of them have a bad word to say about their circumstances here. They are just so thankful to be allowed to live in a country with more freedom than their own where they don't have to worry about looking over their shoulders and they never complain. I do get the problem with immigration. I think we have a real problem and it needs to be controlled but it's easy to forget that people like Simon exist who are here for good reason. :) I'll stop talking now.

This myth that there are thousands of jobs waiting to be filled is bull though. Working in an unpaid sales position trying to flog crap over the phone or door to door is not a proper job.

Any half way decent, normal job is receiving a 100+ CVs and from what I've seen, the number of entry level jobs is going way down, every advert seems to read 'Must be fluent in four languages, have 3+ years experience, know every computer programme devised by man and willing to work shifts, nights and weekends with no overtime' c£15k.

The wages in this country have always been pretty bad compared to our American and European counterparts, now employers are using the recession to further squeeze their workforce.

As for minimum wage and benefits, why would anyone work for £160 when their rent is £250 per week? That is madness.

£250?! For that money, it would have to be a gingerbread house I could eat!

I think my class is showing :$.
