The invasion of Normandy (D-Day) took place 65 years ago today. I still get choked up in many ways when I watch the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan.
65 years ago today
As you might be aware DaButt, the Brits were there too. But not according to Sarkozy.
Beyond belief. What's even more unbelievable is how that vile frog Sarkozy has attempted to make such a mind-blowing event into an essentially anti-English political one.
An uncle of mine was in a glider unit of the 6th Airborne (they're the ones who took Pegasus): http://www.remuseum.org.uk/campaign/rem_campaign_6adiv.htm

And many more Brits than Americans at that.
True more brits, but it's not a competition Renegade, we were allies fighting against an evil dictator.
Consider myself lucky I don't have to fight like this today for a lot of things we take for granted thanks for mentioning this Da Butt.

I'm reminded of an incident in a pub (frequented by expatriates) in Vietnam when an American and a Scotsman were arguing over whether the British or the Americans made the greatest contribution to victory in World War II. The Scotsman was loudly declaring the heroism of "ma daddy, who got shot by the Germans", while the American was yelling about "my pappy got killed by the Japs".
Drunk Scotsman: Britain won the war. Yer country just came in at the end.
Drunk American: F**k you man, my pappy got killed by Japs, etc... etc...
The two eventually started fighting with their fists - and it took a German guy to intervene and separate them. Quite funny.

No, it was a little fiercer, I believe it was called a war.
My comment wasn't aimed at who contributed more to the war effort, it was at Sarkozy's arrogance in arranging a D-Day celebration without bending over backwards to accommodate the UK.
How many of our dead have to lie in his country before he realises that he's being a bad host?

Haha, good story Kenneth, just abit annoy how people argue over stuff like that, we all contributed.
Sarkozy seems to be a particularly annoying midget. I think he just saw it as an opportunity to grease up to Obama and didn't give us a second thought. Tosspot.

He is a cock, and can I just say this Messiah thing with Obama is getting really old now.

I didn't!

Only if you count the Canadians and who counts Canadians?
(Hi, Curt!)
But as was said earlier, it wasn't a competition or anything. I certainly wouldn't start a bar fight over it.

Even De Gaulle seemed to resent us after we bailed them out.

It's the real thing.
Oooh. Wow.
