No, but then Michael McIntyre is funny.

I saw a 'test gig' with Reginal D. Hunter a few years ago. Cost a tenner and there can't have been more than 20 of us. Excellent atmosphere, nice little venue (the tiny private screening room of a cinema), and best of all, very very funny. Once I've got a bit more cash and free time, I'll be checking out more of these warmup and test shows.

Oh, and re: that they should be free, Russell Howard, Al Murray and a couple of others do gratis ones. Think maybe Lee Mack.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall Carr using a clipboard on one of the DVDs; could be that it was his 'thing' on that tour rather than a prompt in the way you seem to suggest.

Noble's incredibly overrated though. And the £20 ticket was probably to compensate for the voice - argh!

Yeah, Carr's clipboard was part of his show, not a 'testing' thing.

I was suggesting he used it to remember his jokes. Which he clearly did as he kept on looking at it. He had two as well, one for when he sat on the sofa it was off putting given that Tim Vine does double the jokes without anything.

It still looks bad, its not like he made a joke of it.

Well, I certainly didn't get that impression at all. It seemed to me to be the 'thing' of the routine, his prop. At most a prompt as to the make-up of the show when things were getting off-track, certainly not to "remember his jokes".

I think it was one of those convenient props then, as I was in the second row of one of his early gigs and he definitely used it regularly and not for when he went off track. Also its a bit of a rubbish 'thing' for the whole show. Like I said, if it wasn't a prompt he wouldn't need to pick up a second one when he went to the sofa. I do like him, but I know what I saw.

Oh and I was with a large group of friends who said the same thing. Maybe he only used it a lot early on and then used it less as he went on. He had just finished a completely different tour a few months earlier.

Well, to be fair Carr does have more gags to deliver than most. It'd certainly take me a while to remember an hour routine!

I'm still not sure how comics like Tim Vine and Gary Delaney can remember all their 100s of jokes... must have really good memory skills!

I think that's a given for any live performer. JC has never done it on previous tours but maybe all those panel shows he does with autocues and cards have got him out of practice. It was only a minor point anyway.

I think McIntyre's tour will be well worth watching.

The Beeb are trailing his 'Comedy Madhouse' or whatever it's called.

My previous descriptions of the man have not been challenged. This looks poor.

Whether or not you like Michael, it's still worth watching his new show as it's not just him. There's four other comics appearing each week too... it's a good line up in my opinion.

No, it's not just based on his looks. If you remember in the 'Lazy Comedy Slags' thread I said that his material was very weak and all he does is yell normal things in a high pitched posh voice.

'The supermarket ladies and gentlemen...the Super! Market!...it's not really super is it? I mean you can't buy Spiderman there, can you?!...Wouldn't it be great if you could though boys and girls?...Three Spidermans please!!!' Etc, etc, yawn, thud.

Ha, I think his stuff is generally a lot better than that!

But as long as you're judging him after actually having watched him then I can't really argue with that.
It's the people who hate him because he's posh or 'has a punchable face' that bug me.

The fact he is incredibly posh, annoying and has a face that is very punchable is merely the cherry on top of the cake in terms of why I don't like him.

The real issue is the fact he is terrible. That horrible laughing whilst delivering the set up to the jokes thing he does makes me cough up blood.
