What endings to sitcoms do you hate?
My vote would go to One Foot in the Grave - I love the show, but the way it ended was very poor, and un-necessary.

The Brittas Empire is regularly mentioned on this theme for obvious reasons...
I disagree with you about One Foot in the Grave though.
Have to say I didn't like the 'One Foot' ending either. Killing him off felt a bit much.
The last ever episode of Friends felt horribly rushed.
It's often annoying when an American network cancels a sitcom mid-series, and the viewers don't get a 'proper' ending at all.
Fegen and Norris's original ending to series five of the Brittas Empire was rather poignant, much more so than the depressing death of Meldrew. But the show was resurrected for series six and seven with other writers, and ended atrociously.
The last Seinfeld was unfortunately indulgent.
What I remember about Brittas Empire is they seemed to be getting it right and then the main writers left. Still, if it takes 4 to 5 series to get it right then perhaps it wasn't that great to start with.
Only Fools And Horses, they'd already given it the perfect ending, then brought it back again anyway.
Spaced; it wasn't a bad ending or anything, I just wanted more!!
I thought the One Foot ending was brilliant. It was a very dark sitcom and it wasn't meant to be all nice and I thought it was very brave of Renwick to flip over the comedy coin and have the loveable character killed off. It was a show that wasn't affraid to explore such topics and I hold my hands up to it.
My least favourite ending of all time has to be Bewitched. It ended with no fanfare whatsoever. Although to be fair, I don't think the producers/writers knew it was going to end at the time. I believe Elizabeth Montgomery just got bored with it, and decided to walk away.
Only Fools and Horses - The 2nd time!
Rodney: I don't feel like making that film anymore.
Del: You know what Rodney, that's a bloody good idea!

Perhaps they should have ended 'Friends' with a 'Soprano'-esque ending set in Central Perk? They're all sitting there, Chandler makes a wise-crack, Phoebe looks towards the door, then cut to black for 8 secs before credits. I for one would have liked to imagine the possibility that an assasin had walked in and executed them in a sudden hail of bullets and blood.
JEREMY (V/O: We could be like the friends in 'Friends', who were such good friends they got bored with being friends and started to f**k each other.
I remember getting a pathetic little lump in my throat as they all put their keys down at the end of that last 'Friends' episode.
Has there ever been a sitcom (run rather than single episode) that has had a 'it was all a dream' ending?

All put their keys down? They ended it with a wife-swapping party? Kudos to them then.
