Are you a heat hater? Page 9

For those of you who hate the sun I reckon you've only got about another 2 weeks of this to bear before torrential downpour kicks in, starting on... say the 19th. ;)

Yay! Torrential downpour! :D

I am toooo too warm now, and at least the rain will suppress the pollen a bit. My hayfever in combination with my tiredness has made me look like I've been crying all day.

Does rain do that or is it just a myth? I remember the atrocious summer in which Rhianna's Umbrella was Number 1 for nine months, and I was sneezing just as much. Despite the constant deluges outside.

*shrugs* I find it helps me.

This is a myth. My g/f strugles worse with it when it rains on sunny days.

What does happen when it rains is that a lot of air pollution gets trapped in the water droplets and some people find it easier to breathe, especially in London.

As an ardent cigarette smoker, I love this time of year, I can sit outside the pub and not feel like a pariah. The only downside is that you get non-smokers outside the pub too and even though they now own every building in Britain, it doesn't stop them complaining.

It's particularly irritating when they don't see the futility and abusrdity of sitting outside a pub in a busy street in the West End inhaling traffic pollution all day and then complaining about cigarette smoke.

You fought for a smoke free pub, now go and sit in it you bastardos!

The hot weather can make people short tempered though. Whistling nnocently

Rain knocks pollen and other particles out of the air temporarily. Once I was at a friend's house in L.A. after a rainstorm and realized that he had a mountain view from his back porch. I'd never seen it before because of the smog and haze.

But rain also encourages plant growth - especially grasses and weeds - which can eventually lead to more pollen.

Sitting outside a pub with a ciggie Cool

Sitting on a hot beach with a ciggie and cold glass bottle of Coke. Cool

Watch you don't get sand in your port.

Makes sense, actually!

Smoking on a hot beach sounds horrible!

Wouldn't smoking on a cold drizzly night be better?

I'm not or wasn't actually sat outside the pub with a ciggie. I was just agreeing with you, that it's quite the pleasant experience. :D
