btw Yeah, I use ScriptSmart too.

The layouts are good and I've been told my scripts look very professional, but it can be a complete and total pain in the bottom, and my writing partner is not a fan at all.

If you give it time you'll get used to it, and it is free!

Agree with everthing Dan said except I don't have a writing partner

Quality isn't subjective.

When it comes to comedy I think it is subjective. Just look at the debates about Office, Green Wing etc. But everything is pretty subjective. Just look at those 'channel 4 100 greatest...' lists and see how many you agree with.

There are far to many courses being run by people that haven't actually achieved much if anything. I once went to a seminar with the writer of Dibley and learnt more from that than anything else.

I use Scriptsmart from the BBC website also. At first I found it a bit fiddly but now it seems very obvious and easy also.

I think when I first started with it there wasn't a manual (may still be the case) but there are help files that are downloaded when you install the template. But in all honesty a day or two playing with it should have you up and running.

As Dan says it looks professional too

I use scriptsmart too, it can be a nightmare on some systems so I just use on my PC.

You should read his sitcom 'Sweethearts'.

It's pretty boring. What's a 'Vomit Face'? What kind of a husband doesn't know if their wife is on the pill or not? Surely not even a 'dumb' character thinks contraception pills look like smarties? But it's not a terrible script by any means.

I havent developed a sitcom I want to send out yet but I may us the celexi or whatever it's called seems pretty profess... but I think I have problems transfering to Word.

Wow everyone thanks for all the feedback.

I'll take a look at the software shortly.

As for the HE course, I think it would be good for me. I have no pretentions about being a good writer or 'making' it. I just enjoy it and would like to know more.

Cheers

Then do it, is my advice.

I'm stuck in IT cos I didn't know what I wanted to do when I grow up and now I want to write, I'm in completely the wrong industry. I'm insanely jealous of people who enjoy their jobs (regardless of pay)!

Not an IBMer by any chance are you Dan?

Don't be jealous - you're lucky enough to have another talent that you can use to escape IT and do something you love, a lot of people are stuck there. In the mean time, you're financially stable. (he says trying to convince himself not to quit his job)

hi,

i'm gonna do it, my first module is either comedy or scriptwriting!

I can understand the point of view, i can't see hemmingway doing a course, but i'm no hemmingway.
