That's what I would do. Start from scratch, harness the good points of the club and just start removing those who are dragging them down. Cut out the mercantile players like Owen and their perpetually changing list of defenders, the players who only put the shirt on because it gets them paid. Use the money to scour the lower leagues for talent and cherry pick the best of the Championship, a club like Newcastle is such a prospect for any player outside of the Premiership because they look like they will go up. Then they need to stop spunking money on ridiculous attackers and build a stable back four, I don't think I've ever known them to have a good defence yet they never solve this problem. I think this relegation has been a long time coming.

Also, they'll probably have a lot less money now. Clubs tend to focus on homegrown players in such cases, who are also much more motivated and function better as a team. We had that several times in the Bundesliga, that a club went down and came back with a very young but well attuned team.
Poor Nil, though.
To be honest, Newcastle's resources will easily outstrip any of the teams in the Championship. They do need a new owner though and it might be easier to sell, as long as he lowers his demanding asking price.
