Top show, I used to watch it on ITV when I was a kid. I dinnt realise Jerry Seinfeld appeared in the show early in its run though
Benson
I remember watching this at the time and liking it, don't know how it would hold up now though. Wasn't it a spin off from Soap? Which was also good.
*looks for Diff'rent Strokes and Metal Mickey threads* Oh.
I don't know about the show, but at school we used to call anybody black "Benson". Sometimes I'm ashamed of my younger self.
Seem to recall it started strongly, but degenerated into the most awful schmaltz, as often happens with US shows.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are ashamed of the contemporary model.

(Although I know secretly you all love me...you do all love me, right? )
It was one of those 'also rans' along with 'Family Ties'. I wouldn't mind seeing either of them again though.
I remember it as being a sadly sentimental spin-off from the sublime Soap. Not to say Soap couldn't be sentimental at times. I just don't think the character of Benson could properly sustain a series, but Alien Burt? I'd watch that.

It was a Soap spin-off.
Soap lasted 4 years while Benson ran for 7 seasons.
The premise was that Benson left the Tate family to take a job in the governor's mansion. The governor in this case was the cousin of Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond).
