I think Gervais deserves to be criticised for a lot of things, but not appearing on panel shows isn't one of them. He is enormously succesful, with more money in the bank than everybody on this forum put together, so why bother going on those shows? There's no financial incentive, and at best those shows are comedy muzak. They're blandly entertaining, but you forget them the minute they're over. As for David Mitchell, he clearly enjoys appearing on them so good luck to him.
Does Gervais think he is too big for Panel shows? Page 3
Quote: Jeremy Smith @ August 6, 2007, 6:25 PMHe's best when he has time to sit down and write it out. Stephen Merchant is very funny at one-liners.
But because he doesn't do it, it means hes arrogant?? I think if you suggest that you are ignorant and stupid. There are many number of reasons why he doesn't do them, one being that he doesn't need to do them, he has plenty of money.
Fantasy Bazaar - I think you are living in a fantasy. No, he's not the only one who's written a great TV show. But he did write the most successful sitcom of the 21st Century, a follow-up sitcom that did extremely well, written three excellent selling books, as well as three sell-out stand up tours, starred in several films, written an episode of the Simpsons, and played a major part in the development of the podcast (thats not mentioning any of the awards he has won). So, even if he did feel superior and arrogant, he'd have reason to. But like I said, he has no need to go on the shows, as he is a household name already and his appearance would not help his status in any way.
Oh dear, looks like someone's spat their dummy out.
First of, you don't do game shows to improve your status or make money, you do them just for a laugh.
Secondly, you said he's written the most successful sitcom of the 21st century, we are still in the 21st century with 93 years until the next one. Ample time for someone to write a better sitcom.
Thirdly, there's never a good reason for someone to be arrogant, no matter what they've done.
Edit: No 'txt spk' please. - Editor
As posted on a different thread.
Has anyone read the critique of RG's peformance at the Princess Dead gig? His response was pure David Brent.

(1) How awful that he doesn't want to 'have a laugh' on the game shows. Gervais is such a terrible person?
(2) Yes, there is plenty of time, but at this moment in time, my fact is true, so I'm not sure what your point is.
(3) Thing is, he isn't arrogant. He acts arrogant for comical effect.
I haven't spat my dummy out at all. You were making ridiculous accusations. If you want to see what Gervais thinks of these stupid theories, go to rickygervais.com and watch the video on there.
Boys! C'mon! It's not world politics, it's sodding Ricky Gervais!
Calm down, shake hands, and have a cuppa.

Exactly, and have you seen his 'Politics' DVD?
Get on or the guitar comes out and we sit in the circle of harmony. You no wanna do that.
There's nothing wrong with a little sing song. I'm up for that.
Not much of a lyric though.
It just seems so pointless.
Why hasn't he presented Spring Watch, is he too arrogant to associate with wildlife?
Why hasn't he made me jelly? Is he too arrogant, does he not have enough control over the edit of the jelly? Is jelly a bit unpredictable and he couldn't work with it unless the jelly was scripted?
Why hasn't he posted on this thread? He's a twat.
Gervais has worked with jelly in the past - episode 1 of The Office, and he scripted the jelly in that. He also had editorial control over the jelly's performance, but I don't know if he always demands this.
I was particularly concerned by the fact he hadn't made me jelly. It makes me angry as I am aware he is prepared to work with jelly but hasn't had the balls to make some for me.
I would prefer red jelly please Ricky, if you're reading.

Indeed he is.
Well, you smell.
