Who killed the sitcom? Page 2

Bloody hell, that's an impressive reach. Did you know there's also a similar channel on freeview channel 50 called Partyland, which is rather similar? Think that starts at 1am though.

I'm ashamed to say I did see that last night on my channel list and ponder. But it's ridiculous the times of all these shows. Don't they realise that there's a lot of sexually frustrated men of a certain age that can longer make it past half past ten without tiring? Angry

I know. It's political correctness gone mad. Or something. Not like when I was a kid and watched Night Network, hoping for a bit of semi-rudeness in 'The Hit Man and Her'.

I don't think Maurice Gran was harping on about the good old days in the article - just telling it like it is. And he's allowed to be cocky. 'Shine On Harvey Moon', 'Birds Of A Feather', 'Goodnight Sweetheart', 'New Statesman' - four big hit shows whether you love 'em or hate 'em. And they've always encouraged new writers.

Hello all - apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. Just read it and thought it was worth sharing?

Viewers have ALWAYS bemoaned the state of comedy, and it's usually down to simple nostalgia. My Dad was always up in arms about the "shite" on TV in the eighties. While I was pissing myself laughing at The Young Ones, he was going on about the early Steptoes and Hancocks. In twenty years time, my son will be killing himself laughing at The first off-planet Penis On Venus Comedy Show whilst I sit grumbling how good The League Of Gentlemen was.

He may not think the 'Penis On Venus Comedy Show' is funny. How do you know what your son will be doing in twenty years time? For all you know he will be killing himself laughing - at your funeral.

"Hey Mum! - Dad's finally made me laugh!"

I'd like to see an interview with a succesful writer of yesteryear where they don't bitch and moan about the state of modern comedy and television.

I saw an interview with Paul Jackson who doesn't think sitcoms are dead. At least he didn't when they taped in the interview. It's part of the bonus material in a Red Dwarf series. He mentions how every 6 months or so someone writes a newspaper article about the death of sitcom. Then Paul goes on to list what he feels are great sitcoms, both British an US.

Three Of A Kind

Put aside the Lenny Henry hatred, and that was good stuff.

Bread was so bad, so bad, it was so terrible I can't even think of anything snarky to say about it.

It showed dole scum for what they are; dole scum?

That's all I can come up with. :/

Another one that wasn't too bad was Blackadder, but not many people remember that.

So you did! My mistake. Hmm. No, I can't think offhand of anything else from the 1980s that you'd like.

Brass!!!!!

Drop The Dead Donkey?

Brass!!!!!

I'm not sure I would have put it down as a sitcom, but that was very good.
