hello,
I seem to have a mental block.
I'm trying to think of a movie which is based on the whole 'steal from the rich to give to the poor' philosophy of Robin Hood.
I can't think of one at all.
Anyone?
thanks in advance.

Robin Hood?
That's as far as I got.
You're essentially talking about heist movies, but as far as I'm aware most seem to have the money going to the crooks who plan and carry out the heist. or, in the case of Reservoir Dogs, the heist going titis up and everybody dying.
exactly.
Not sure it really counts, but in a way the TV show Dexter is a variation on the theme, in which the central character commits criminal acts with the aim of helping society.
(And if it does count, you can have all the Death Wish/Dirty Harry vigilante movies).
I think there's a new movie coming out with johnny Depp in and Christian Bale about a bank robber... he only steals from banks though and doesn't take customers (hostages' personal) money (or something like that).

Michael Mann's Public Enemies, about John Dillinger. Looks great, and one of the must see movies of the year.
In terms of bank robbers, it's hard to get a more good natured pair than Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Not sure about films but Firefly/Serenity had a similar theme to Robin Hood, criminals who couldn't turn down people in trouble, despite the dangers from the law. Also check out a late 60's show called Alias Smith and Jones, where two outlaws try to go straight.

I hope you're not thinking of the Steven Seagal movie Today You Die: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431114/
Like all Steven Seagal movies, it was awful, yet popular in Southeast Asia.
I can't believe I didn't think of it yesterday... The A Team. There were always helping orphans and peasants and downtrodden melon farmers. They were excellent.
There was the truly dire Rat Pack vehicle, Robin and the Seven Hoods.
And apparently Ridley Scott is making a new Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe playing both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
