Just watched the first five minutes of this evening's episode. What's that rumbling noise. Oh wait, it is Michael Bates, John Comer and Joe Gladwin turning in there respective graves.

As each new series is broadcast, the now departed cast members receive more and more praise. If they were capable of it then they'd probably want it to run forever...

The mention of John Comer reminds me of the nice little reference to him at the end of the A Small Funeral episode of a few years back. A watched that ep not too long ago and it struck me what a fine job Roy Clarke did despite not having long to write the scripts for that series.

It made me think as well, like others have said, that the real downturn in quality of the show only came when multiple cast changes started to be required every series.

The only point of this show now is to keep legendary British comedy actors and actresses employed and to remind us that they are still alive.

Well exactly. I watched the new episode last night to give the new ones one final go and it was shocking. So remind myself it used to be a classic, I watched an episode starring the original trio and it was of a much better league. And yes, nice reference to Sid, who was a terrific character in my opinion and quite fitting his swan-song was a true Summer Wine classic, the extended special Getting Sam Home.

Yes it was good to see him there in body if not in voice

Yes that's right. He was dubbed by Tony Melody. He had throat cancer I think.

Yes, he died not long after the episode was first shown. I thought there would be an I Didn't Know You Cared topic on here as well, as that show also featured John Comer, but I don't think there is.

Tell me Dene, what 1977 episode was it? 1977 was series 4, a very good series for the show.

It was 'A Merry Heatwave' (actually, early 1978 I think). Nora's brother, who lived in Australia, was very ill and she was downhearted about it. No broom in sight!

Yes, good episode.

I have been watching the latest DVD series 15 and 16),including the special 'Welcome To Earth' in which John Cleese makes a very brief appearance. My mum and I have been wondering why Marina refers to Clegg as 'Norman Clegg that was'
