Stand up Comedy. Page 3
Did a Bull Comedy Course as I want to write for stand ups rather than be a stand. But was offered a five minute spot at the Kings Head in Crouch End. Two of us from the course did it - rest chickened out! 
I was a first timer but Vahid had a lot more experience and was incredibly good. Very friendly crowd, terrific compere in Lateef Lovejoy and I got through my act ok. People actually laughed and once I got a cheer (joke about Jacqui Smith's husband watching porn on expenses). In fact I seem to have caught the Zeitgeist as I did my act in early April and had a joke about Gordon Brown's smile which by coincidence seems to have become a news story now after his YouTube appearance!

Would certainly recommend Bull Comedy and the Kings Head for newbies!

Thanks for the "well done" - gives me a warm feeling Ooooo, famous last words, "I don't want to be a stand up but ..." 
Maybe ... I wouldn't rule it out but I think I prefer the anonymity of the writer. And I also think my jokes are a lot stronger than my delivery so I'd prefer to leave it to the professionals! But then again, never say never ...
I tried my hand at stand up before I considerd writing. Its something im just as passionate about as my writings.
My first gig was in my local pub, where I managed to get the landlady to let me use the function room for free, and I invited all my friends to come down and see me. I had all my material written for months in advance, but because of personal issues, didnt get around to rehersing until I had 1 week left.
Anyhow, the gig went well, im guessing so, becuase people kept buying me drinks all night! and I was also invited to take part in another pub for a fund raising night, this time not infront of my friends, which also went well.
This resulted in another gig for me, as a friends band were due to play a gig in a rock-pub, supporting a band from The band no-showed and my friends band were the only band playing. As I got to the gig expecting my friends band to be on stage soon, I was asked my my friends (from the band) dad if I would be able to do a bit of comedy.
ALthough this was very short notice, and I hadent tweaked with my material from my previous 2 gigs, it went down well!
So far ive had 3 gigs, and enjoyed them all. I enjoy performing more than writing, but at the minute im trying to focus on my writing skills so im writing a sit-com. I much prefer writing for stand-up, and enjoy performing stand-up more than anything ive ever done.

I am doing stand up regular now in and around London, I wanted to do the fringe festivals this year but maybe a little to soon. I'm going upto Edinburgh and if there are any open mic's or anything Iol be straight on the band wagon.
I love doing it, there is a great rush from knowing you can make a whole room laugh and its really without trying to hard. Its just things you may have noticed the others didnt or a story form your life. Great stuff!

I love the Lions Den! I managed to get 5 minutes on the night they had Stephen K Amos and Patrick Monehan, great night.
I did the gong a few months back and lasted the 8 minutes but didn't win, my mate did the talented, charasmatic, funny c@*t!
Tim runs really friendly nights down there I would highly recommend new comics to try it out, might see you on the 19th Darren.

Never forget that stand up comedy is the single most terrifying thing any human being can ever do, and for that very reason you must absolutely always take the opportunity to do it.
no one knows if they're funny unitl they get up in front of an audience and even then maybe not, no one knows if their material is funny until they try it in front of an audience and even then maybe not, every night is different, every crowd (or four people sitting in the dark at the back of a room in Aberdeen)is different; the same material might have them rolling in the Aisles one night, might get nothing more than an embarrassed cough the next night.
try it, try it again, try it again, try it again and again and again until you get better or you give up, you can be taught to speak live on stage you can be taught to edit your material you can be taught to act in a certain way but you cannot be taught to be funny.

How terrifying is it?
I ask because although I perform stand-up every weekend, I think I'd probably pap myself if I had to parachute or bungee.
Although I am a bit hard because I used to0 scuba... in the UK. Well, around it, technically.
Anmyway I just want to know whether or not I can be smug in the company of parachutists and bungee jumpers.

You're fearless on stage Warbs. I've seen you stand proud over the Stag and Hen nights like a mighty Mancs lion tamer. Although I did note a twitch of trepidation at Redcar, but that was obviously down to the Blade Runner backdrop.
