Comedy Songs

How often do comedy songs work in their own right, though? Not often.

So, what do people think? I think they can work pretty well.

I'll start the ball rolling with:

The Humans Are Dead - Flight of the Conchords
Insect Nation - Bill Bailey
Women Call it Stalking - Otis Lee Crenshaw
Vatican Rag - Tom Lehrer
Stutter Rap - Morris Minor & the Majors

I'm sure there's plenty more out there.

London Underground by the Amateur Transplants.

Saw them live in London not long ago. I was crying with laughter. So funny.

Python. Some of the finest somic songs known to humankind. Not The Nine O'Clock news had some great pastiche songs, particularly their take on the Two Ronnies. And, as Griff rightly points out, Half Man Half Biscuit, who more people should know about and listen to.

Albi (the Racist Dragon) - Flight of the Conchords
Love Song - Bill Bailey

John Shuttleworth and Frank Sidebottom.

Yes yes yessss!

Business Time by FotC too, and The Saga Begins by Weird Al for nostalgic reasons.

All corkers shame I can't reference stuff from News Revue. There's some stuff in critique which it would be ace to hear performed.

Fascinating Aida and Kit and the Widow are absolutely brilliant at comedy songs. If you get a chance to see them live I recommend that you do.

Ernie by Benny Hill
Right said Fred and 'Digging a Hole' by Bernard Cribbins.
My bropther by Terry Scott.

All a bit old school, admittedly.

Yes! Right Said Fred is ace.

I've never heard of Amateur Transplants. I shall hunt some down.

And I'd completely forgotten about Rambling Syd Rumpo. Also Kenneth Williams' French love song - Ma Crepe Suzette.

And of course, Tribute by Tenacious D.

Do the Mighty Boosh crimping songs count as comedy songs?

We Pop Pills by U2
F**k the Freeworld by Coldplay
F**kboy by Michael Jackson
I'm Too Fat by Right Said Fred
The Monotonous Fairground Song by Lilly Allen

That's it, all gang up on me and try to prove me wrong. Angry
