In Living Color

Has anyone watched this American show from the late 80's/early 90's. For those who haven't seen it (and I'm not sure if it was ever broadcast over here), it's a character based sketch comedy that pretty much made the careers of Jim Carrey and the Wayans Brothers. It was excellent and completely ahead of it's time in my opinion.

Based on the cast being nearly all black, clearly it has a lot of sketches aimed at black people (poking fun at the black/white divide), but it also had some well written, unrepetitive characters, going alongside some clever one time sketches.

One of my early favourite sketches on the show was this, a spoof of Star Trek-

And here's a few of my favourite character based sketches-

Anyway, has anyone else seen this sketch show, and what are your thoughts on it?

Yeah, I remember the show. I think it was pretty good, but nothing amazing.

Homey don't play that.
Didn't Paul Mooney used to write for this show? Paul Mooney is amazing.

In Living Color was very good. Even better was the band Living Colour.

This show is literally the bees knees. It's cultural humor, so a lot of the jokes don't hit everybody in the funny bones.
I'll be the first one to say the show had a serious weak start. The first season was just okay; Kim Coles left to do Living Single, and after that more of the Wayans family members joined the cast and it took off.
Everything was going fine for them with some of their best stuff until Damon Wayans left. From there is was downhill. A lot of the reason he left was because Fox Network wanted Homey the Clown as a show, and was pressuring them to do more of that than the variety stuff they were doing. They also wanted more of a spotlight for Jim Carey, which his characters were probably the most annoying. Fox then fired Kenan from his own show (and Kenan was a lead writer as was Damon), which made Shawn, Marlon, and Kim leave, wso the show became a revolving door of whoever the network could get, leading to its demise.
Jaime Foxx broke out of that show, but I didn't like most of the stuff he was doing. By the time he came on, 90% of the show was just overglorified gay jokes or dudes doing gay/drag queen characters that ran way too long.

Golden Nuggets from the show are:

Ceephus and Reese (a triple spoof of Ashford and Simpson and Peaches and Herb, bad black gospel singers that hold the notes way too long, and those time life infomercials) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJHDPX3Q06c

Less funnier skits that were overkill were Frenchie, Wanda, Fire Marshall Bill, Vera Wang (the muscle chick), Homey The Clown, Funky Finger Productions, and Men On Film.

One of my favourites: Jim Carrey as Joey Buttafuoco from the famous case of Amy Fisher a.k.a ''The Long Island Lolita''
