Scratchings...

I have peculiar noises in my loft. Not gnawing, but rattling/scratching noises. My cat is very excited about this new development but I am less so. Has anybody here got experience of dealing with a rogue mouse (or worse)?

It might be a bird stuck up there.
I don't know if mice would be that loud.

I had birds nesting in my loft in my last place. They managed to get in through a gap under the eves. I could only hear them during daylight hours which was fine until it started getting light at 5.00am (at the weekend). I didn't bother sorting it out as I was moving anyway. I suppose the obvious answer is to investigate and see what's up in your loft. Droppings may provide a clue.

Having had mice in the loft when I was a kid - I can assure you that it was very loud at night, I thought the thing was coming through the ceiling but was actually sharping it's teeth on my old cot.

Get a mouse trap up there - should soon sort out the problem.

I don't think its a bird - its a modern house and there aren't any gaps (that I know of) - although its quite loud. Plus the cat stares intently at one area of the ceiling, then another and another, as if whatever it is has moved. I really don't need this as I am studying for an exam tomorrow..

Have you had any children suddenly leave home? Does your missus buy twice as much food as you need and disapear into the loft for long periods of time?

When did you last see your mother?

Well no sign of anything up there- children, mothers or rats. I've put some mouse and rat killer down (which I actually wondered whether to use as it is past its use-by date; I don't want them to get ill). So we shall see.

I only noticed it at midnight last night as I was going to bed. Hopefully its just one visitor up there and not a whole gang of them doing the sex all over my old trainset...

Mother's not been herself.

Can I show you to your room?

Just buy the cheapest wooden traps, put peanut butter on them and hey presto ! I say buy the cheapest ones because when they work you won't want to use them again...

We had the same noises, it turned out to be a wasps nest.

Arrrghh Wasps! They are evil! Even more evil then Skeletor

It's probably a ghosty-wobble waiting to put the willies up you.

Squirrels?
