I felt sorry for Graham Norton too - the audience really didn't warm to his jokes. He had to soldier on in silence. And the one quick witted joke he did make that, reportedly, made the audience laugh (the One Foot In The Grave one at McIntyre) was cut!
I think the fact that he tried to do a 'routine' annoyed the audience too (in fact he tried two - 'wee' and sitcom names). I'm sure I've heard him do his 'wee' routine before... The people presenting awards are there to do just that - not add another round of applause to their show reel. I have read that McIntyre isn't the most loved in the business - Jo Brand allegedly had words with him at Comic Relief.
I thought Rob Brydon was witty. And given that it was on the Beeb, and they are *so* proud of them, it was a surprise Horne and Corden weren't shoe-horned in
