Just got an invite to this. The panel includes Jeremy Dyson, Phil Mealey and Michael Jacob.
Is anyone from here going?
I've never been to one of these things before, so a couple of questions...Are they any good? What should I expect?
Thanks.

I'll be there. There's lots of sex and drugs involved at these things, so bring your bong and thong.
But seriously folks...it'll probably be a fairly informal affair, and a great opp to pick the brains of some seriously-talented comedy types. Plus free drinkies after. What's not to love?
I don't live anywhere near Leeds, but I am tempted about that free booze.

Did you get the invite through the Northern Laughs comp then Martin?
The main thing is there are some cracking curry houses in Leeds!
Leeds? Isn't that where half these terrorists come from?
What did that Harry Enfield Yorkshireman character say again? "Sophistication? Don't talk to me about sophistication, I've BEEN to Leeds!"
I lived in Leeds for a short while in a shithole called Morley. Can't say I'll be making any immediate plans to move back.

Yep, the one I messed up my application on. They've been great though and kept in touch and been happy to read my scripts.
You also got through with the Northern Laughs comp didn't you? Have you had the interview yet? If so, how did it go?

Ah riiiight, I remember now.
Yeah I had the interview last Monday. I was convinced I'd ballsed it up but amazingly I found out on Friday that I've been selected for the scheme, so hurrah to that.

Nice one, good luck with it all.
What type of stuff did they ask you about in the interview?

Hard to recall everything - they briefly talked about the script I submitted but seemed most interested in getting to the absolute root of what it is I want to write, which threw me a little because I always thought it was the opposite way around - that they would want to mould you. But basically what they were saying was they want to work with writers with a "voice".

Oh that sounds good though, they seem dedicated in helping out new writers without forcing them in to a certain category.
They must have liked something you said if you got through. Once again, good luck with it.
