I'm a bit worried that Baby Cow might think my sitcom is too similar to Ideal. Admittedly, there's a lot more going on in mine, e.g. outside shots, but the fact that it's about a single bloke, approaching 30, living in a flat, in a house, might be a problem. I've even got an episode where his deadbeat Dad makes an appearance - just like Johnny Vegas's did, in the last series of Ideal.
Well you will only be sending them one episode, write one which is a bit less of a match. You don't have to have his dad return in the episode you send off.
Try and make a few subtle changes as well. Would it matter if he was mid 20's? Could he live in a house not a flat? or with someone else?
I can't really make any changes, as I've been writing it for a long time. In fact, I've probably spent longer writing my sitcom, than anyone else on this forum. I can't really tell you how long I've been working on it, as my writing sessions are so sporadic, e.g. sometimes I'll go for a whole week without working on it.
Anyway, I don't want to make my main character any younger, because that will make him seem less of a loser. Also, he has to live in a flat, as there are other characters living in the house
I'll still give Baby Cow a try though, as I'm such a big admirer of shows like Saxondale, Marion and Geoff and The Mighty Boosh.
