Baby Cow Page 2

That looks like an interesting site, though I'm sure more people would be willing to part with their money if there was some sort of results page, letting people know of certain writers that have been contacted by producers interested in what they have read.

Hi

I am the person who set up the site "Literary Showcase" mentioned above. I will start a new thread to say a bit more about it.

With regard to your point Matthew, this is something I am looking to add to the site in the future.

ROFL

Thanks for all your help everyone.

I will send to baby Cow and also to Avalon.

Does anyone know what format it has to be sent in. I use Final Draft and was wondering if that's okay.

Are you emailing? If so I wouldn't send a FD document, they might not have the software to open it. Or they might. Email and ask.

Any pdf will do the job, won't it? Or Word (not 2007 though, pesky thing).

Just wanted to add that Baby Cow seem pretty good to me. Not many companies openly accept unsolicited scripts, never mind get back to you. Obviously in doing it takes quite a while, but that's understandable given the amount they have to get through.

Well I submitted a sitcom script to these guys a few months back and was asked if I had anything else. Am currently writing that 'something else' and hopefully something good will come out of it. Also I (recently) sent them some sketches on DVD but haven't heard back from them.

The only trouble with "open houses" is the shite they will inevitably receive.
That's why it takes so long for them to get back to you.

I made sure I've built up a sizeable portfolio of scripts before I sent any out.
So if that happened to me, I can send something else straight away. :)

True that, a producer, at Baby Cow coincidentally, told me that the majority of stuff he reads is awful.

I'd hate to have a script reader job there.

I'd probably get so depressed with the awful scripts, I'd then look up, see I've got 50 more to wade through, then chuck that 50 in the bin unread.
Thus probably missing out on the "next best thing" script that happened to be the next one to read.

I shouldn't apply for a script reader job, then, if I were you. Probably best staying at the other end of the process. :)

Wasn't there a thread on here a few weeks back, explaining why sending a script to the BBC was a better idea than sending it to a Production company?

I don't see how it would be better as such to do that? If you can get a production companies backing, then get their backing. If you can get any producers backing, then get their backing!

I've been told the same thing by another production company.

Makes sense though.

But if you're good, you'll get a chance, I've always believed that.
