Blues music recommendations Page 2

Jimmy "My Dog's been Shot" Roberts and the Depresso River Boys.
It's mostly just bottle blowing and washboard ribbing.

I cannot commend Robert Cray highly enough, and Aynsley Lister is a young(ish) British talent worth investigating. For a more laidback country blues style, you might try Eric Bibb or Keb' Mo'.

And if the recommendations so far seem a little testosterone charged, you might want to check out Susan Tedeschi or Rory Block.

In reply to David's post - oh yesh!

Good video of him on You Tube, playing with Paul McCartney on some American chat show. Also a certain Mr Gilmour on guitar too - belting stuff!

Anyway, time for some nice (modern) blues links. First of all, Bonamassa with some wicked live slide playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oELM-xXJQl4

The awesome Derek Trucks band with a joyous little tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTfHxT83UCo&feature=related

The legend that was Jeff Healey. Saw him live 5 times and he blew me away every time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d95YFdubGrU

A lesser known guy who played with him once named Philip Sayce. Also played for Melissa Etheridge. Deserves to be much more well known than he is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqNimvQUWcs

Kenny Wayne Shepherd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsfDhtCwGZ4

Jonny Lang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DayCrQWJXuI

Colin James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJyprEtjAiI

Derek used to play to a crowd of about 15 people at a Buffalo wings bar in my hometown in Florida. He was only about 14 years old, so he wasn't allowed in the place when he wasn't performing, so he'd just fool around on his skateboard in the parking lot between sets.

15 people? Good God...

Oh - and Free - especially the album Tons of Sobs.

Hell yeah!

Yeah, those were the days. The last time I saw him was a few years back with the Allman Brothers at the Austin City Limits festival. There were probably 30,000-50,000 people in attendance.

And of course - still knocking them out...........

The Yardbirds!

There was another Florida teenager who (in my opinion) played better guitar than young Derek. They were about the same age and even shared the stage at the wings joint one evening. I just looked him up and it seems he's touring with an American Idol winner. Hmmm. Errr

Hey Mike,

I actually play a bit of Blues on the ole geetar.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned BB King, he is my favourite and I consider him to the greatest! phenomenal. Most of the others I would say have been mentioned. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Richard Johnson, Buddy Guy.

In saying that nobody has said Eric Clapton, who is one of the best and whom most blues players look up to ;).

FOUR OF THE BEST, TOGETHER! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4OXrmxDp44

The closest thing to Blues music that gets in the charts, would probably be Beck. Then again, who gives a shit about the charts?!
