Yes I agree funny is funny but I am sometimes amazed at just how quick some people arrive there. For me personally that is a major talent.
Now that particular scene might have taken 3 takes so for me, although still hilarious, it would have taken a little gloss of the end product, but only a little.

Sort of. But surely some lines in scripted shows like Alan Partridge or Peep Show may have come instantly, while others laboured over for months.

I have no doubt some of the one liners would come have come instantly and the shows are probably funnier for that. Im not convinced curb would have been half as funny if the lines had been laboured over. Perhaps I am worng?
My point being that Curb, to me, is a great show and relies soley on improv. No other sitcom has ever done that.

I think a lot more preparation goes into it than you think. And I'm sutre all of the cast spend a lot of time crafting in their own minds lines they'll say.
